Henry Kirke White, who died at the tragically young age of twenty one, had a short but prolific literary career. First publishing his poetical works in literary magazines, White went on to publish his own collection of poetry in 'Clifton Grove, a Sketch in Verse, with other Poems'.

Henry Kirke White (Ma - Octo ) was an English poet. He was born in Nottingham, the son of a butcher, a trade for which he was himself intended. After being briefly apprenticed to a stocking-weaver, he was articled to a lawyer.

HENRY KIRKE WHITE Poet and Hymn Writer, Henry was born on March 21st in Exchange Alley behind the Exchange Building, Nottingham, which was the precursor to the Council House now on the site. He was the second son of John White, a butcher whose premises were in the Shambles, a jumble of shops behind the Exchange.
